Kristina Campbell, who held the role of Chief Financial Officer at Ripple, has transitioned to a similar position at Maven Clinic, a virtual healthcare provider.
Based on Campbell’s LinkedIn profile, her tenure at Ripple concluded in October, after serving for over two years, without providing specific reasons for her departure, except to express gratitude for her time at the cryptocurrency firm. She had initially joined Ripple in April 2021, following over four years as CFO at the payment platform PayNearMe.
In an October 7th post, Campbell acknowledged the complexities of the healthcare industry, noting its similarities to the fintech sector but also highlighting her new venture into this field.
Campbell’s decision to leave Ripple coincides with the ongoing legal dispute between Ripple and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which commenced in December 2020 primarily concerning the sale of the XRPUSD token. In July, a federal judge ruled that XRP was not considered a security when sold to retail investors—a ruling that was upheld in October following an appeal by the SEC.
Ripple is scheduled to face the SEC in a trial set for April 2024. This legal battle occurs in a year filled with high-profile cases that impact the cryptocurrency space, including the second criminal trial of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried in March 2024 and the trial of former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky in September 2024.
It remains uncertain if Campbell’s departure is related to the regulatory challenges Ripple is encountering in the United States. CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently advised startup companies to consider avoiding the U.S., while CTO David Schwartz indicated that there may be a shift in the regulatory landscape in the country.
