Mt. Gox Trustee Delays Payments, Leaving Creditors in Limbo.
Nobuaki Kobayashi, the individual responsible for overseeing the funds allocated to the creditors of Mt. Gox, issued a public update on September 21, 2023. As per the trustee’s statement, the deadline of October 31, 2023, for repayment could not be met due to extensive negotiations with specific payment providers. Consequently, the commencement of repayments has been rescheduled for the following year.
Henceforth, in accordance with the Tokyo District Court’s authorization, the trustee for rehabilitation has adjusted the repayment deadlines. The new dates for the base repayment, early lump-sum repayment, and intermediate repayment are October 31, 2024, for each, all following Japan Time. This information is detailed in Kobayashi’s communication.
The creditors of Mt. Gox have patiently awaited their payments for a span of nine years. Their outstanding claims encompass 141,686 BTC, 142,846 BCH, and 69,776,002,441 yen. While the delay has been extended, those creditors who have successfully submitted their claims may still anticipate receiving payments before the close of the current year.
The letter further elucidates that rehabilitation creditors who have furnished the requisite information to the trustee will observe repayments being disbursed sequentially, with some potentially receiving their dues by the conclusion of this year. Nonetheless, it is important to note that this schedule may be subject to alteration. Additionally, Kobayashi has acknowledged the existence of a substantial volume of inquiries pertaining to the process, and as a result, the rehabilitation team may not be able to provide immediate responses.
