In an uplifting show of appreciation, the Dogecoin cryptocurrency community has raised funds for a bronze statue of Kabosu, the Shiba Inu dog that inspired the beloved Doge meme. The statue will be unveiled on November 2, 2023 in Sakura Furusato Square, Japan.
Kabosu was rescued as a puppy in 2005 by her owner Atsuko Sato. In 2010, Sato posted a photo online of a curious-looking Kabosu which sparked the incredibly popular Doge meme. The meme inspired the creation of Dogecoin in 2013, a cryptocurrency that has developed a devoted following.
The Dogecoin community launched a crowdfunding campaign for the statue on Kabosu’s 17th birthday in 2022. Despite market downturns reducing the value of donated cryptocurrency assets, the dog-loving community persevered. Their positivity and unity ultimately triumphed in raising the necessary funds.
Sakura Furusato Square, where Kabosu and Sato frequently visit, will be home to the tribute. The scenic park featuring a Dutch windmill will provide a fitting backdrop honoring Kabosu’s global impact and the joy she has brought to so many.
For Dogecoin supporters, the statue will serve as a gathering place and permanent monument to an extraordinary dog. Kabosu continues spreading happiness worldwide just by being her playful, endearing self. The bronze statue in her likeness will immortalize the positivity embodied in one Shiba Inu and her meme.
